Knee pain is one of the most common reasons people over 50 visit a physiotherapy clinic in North London.

It often appears gradually.

You might notice it when:

• going up stairs

• getting out of chairs

• walking longer distances

Many people assume this means arthritis and that nothing can be done.

But that’s not usually the full story.

Common causes include:

• reduced muscle strength

• previous injuries

• reduced hip stability

• load changes

Your knees rely heavily on the muscles around them to absorb force. If those muscles weaken, the knee ends up doing more work than it should.

Think of the knee like a hinge.

If the hinge is supported properly, it moves smoothly.

But if the surrounding structure weakens, the hinge starts to struggle.

Strengthening the right muscles often takes pressure off the joint.

What Physiotherapy Can Do

Physiotherapy for knee pain usually focuses on:

• strengthening the surrounding muscles

• improving movement mechanics

• gradually increasing load tolerance

This often helps reduce pain and improve function.

Knee pain over 50 doesn’t automatically mean you have to stop being active.

With the right guidance, many people continue walking, exercising and enjoying life comfortably. Want to speak to someone and see what we can do to help? Book your FREE 15 minute consultation below
