“Should I just leave it and see if it gets better… or do I actually need to see someone?”

honestly, it's a fair question.

Not every ache or pain needs treatment.

Sometimes your body just needs a bit of time.

But sometimes pain sticks around because something isn’t working properly.

Think of it like a warning light on your car dashboard.

You can ignore it for a while…

But eventually it’s worth checking what’s going on under the bonnet.

1. Pain That Lasts Longer Than Two Weeks

Most minor aches settle within a couple of weeks. Muscles recover quickly if they’re given the right conditions.

If pain is still hanging around after two or three weeks, it often means one of two things:

• the original injury hasn’t fully healed

• the body is compensating somewhere else

2. Pain That Keeps Coming Back

This is a big one.

You rest for a week.

The pain disappears.

Then two weeks later it’s back again.

Recurring pain usually means the underlying cause hasn’t been addressed,

It’s a bit like mopping water from the floor without fixing the leak.

3. Pain When Exercising

If pain appears every time you run, lift weights or play sport, something in the movement system probably isn’t tolerating the load properly.

This doesn’t mean you should stop exercising.

It usually means the body needs to be prepared better for that activity.

Sports physiotherapy focuses heavily on exactly that.

4. Reduced Strength or Movement

Another sign is when something suddenly feels weaker or stiffer than normal.

For example:

• shoulder not lifting properly

• knee feeling unstable

• back locking up

These are common reasons people visit a physiotherapist in North London.

5. Pain Affecting Daily Life

If pain starts interfering with:

• sleep

• work

• walking

• lifting

Then it’s definitely worth getting it checked.

Small problems can turn into bigger ones if they’re ignored for too long.

You don’t need to wait until pain becomes unbearable before seeing a physio.

Often the earlier we assess something, the easier it is to fix.

At Thrive Physiotherapy Clinic in Islington, we offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can understand what might be going on before committing to treatment.

Sometimes the biggest relief is simply getting clarity.
